Claws for a Cause

Longtime Los Gatos residents and out-of-towners alike congregated at CB Hannegan’s for Los Gatos’ seventh annual Claws for A Cause Rotary Club Fundraiser Sat., Sept. 10. The Rotary Club, which sponsors many Los Gatos High School events and programs, has been in operation since 1924. The club uses the money raised at the lobster block party to in turn support local art and music. Tickets cost 85 dollars, and for many, this price is more than worth it given the abundance of delicious food and lively music.
All you can eat lobster, salad, clam chowder, garlic bread, steak, and desserts more than satisfied the people who attended. CB Hannegan’s provided all of the side dishes and Nothing Bundt Cakes supplied tiny bundt squares in red velvet, chocolate, and lemon flavors.
LGHS Band Members, clad in orange aprons and red lobster hats, greeted the eaters, cleared buckets of lobster shells and seafood juices, and sold raffle tickets for a chance to win a two-person trip to the French Riviera. Other members played instruments to entertain those waiting in line. Senior Amy Levine commented “I made a hundred and twenty six dollars in tips alone!” Senior Ben Lee added “It’s a great way to hangout with friends while raising much needed money for the band.”
Men and women of all ages were cracking shells and slurping lobster meat from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. “Onto number four,” stated a bib clad Jerry Hitchcock, a Los Gatos resident, after finishing three lobsters in under an hour.
A live band played as people danced and drank their way to the function’s closing. Always a success, Claws for a Cause will surely be back next year to satisfy seafood lovers near and far.
